Iris Germanica (Bearded Iris)

Iris germanica, the bearded iris, is also known as the flag iris. These lovely iris will thrive under almost any conditions and are relatively easy to grow. Although they will tolerate partial shade, the flowers will be at their best when planted in well-drained soil in full sun. Add horticultural grit to heavy soils. An excellent naturaliser, and one that will reward you for years to come.

An Excellent Naturaliser

Bianca — Pure white flowers with a yellow throat. Flowers May, height 80cm.

Red Wine — Lovely copper orange flowers with deep wine-red outer petals. The colours are particularly striking in late summer light and stand out well in the border. Flowers July to August, height 80cm.

Sugar Blues — A lovely shade of blue with an orange yellow beard. Flowers July to August, height 80cm.

We always prefer to plant our bulbs in clusters or groups to maximise their impact, along pathways or dotted anywhere they can be admired. There are many more special bulbs that will provide equally rewarding results, and we encourage you to experiment and add more to your borders. You can never have too many.
