About Fosteriana Tulips

The longest lasting

One of the best long lasting tulips are the fosteriana tulips, but only if planted in a sunny position where they can be baked by the sun during summer. They are early flowering and thus benefit from a longer growing season. Being of only average height they boast some of the largest and most striking flowers of all tulips, and are the chief parent of the Darwin tulips.

What to plant with them

Winter flowering pansies are ideal to add colour to a small bed, flowering from autumn through to spring. Planted 20cm apart they will produce a dazzling carpet of colour, and are most effective in the spring when planted with the fosteriana tulips, also known as emperor tulips.
