When to Plant.
Autumn is the most important season in the bulb gardener’s year. From September through to November, while the soil still holds a little warmth, is the time to plant daffodils, hyacinths, crocus and alliums, all the spring-flowering favourites that bring the first colour to the border after the dormant winter months. Tulips are the exception. They are happiest planted a little later, from the first light frosts right up until Christmas in a mild year.
As a rule of thumb, plant your bulbs at two to three times their own depth in free draining soil and they will largely look after themselves. Get the preparation right and you are well rewarded, there are few plants that ask so little and give so much. Do call us on 01234 709099.
