The jonquils carry several flowers to a stem, the petals either spreading or reflexed around a cup that is wider than it is long. What sets them apart is the fragrance, which on a still day will carry a surprising distance.
They range from Sabrosa and Sun Disc at 10 to 15cm up to Regeneration and Queen Anne’s Jonquil at around 35cm, so there is something here for a rock garden and something for a border.
Where Jonquilla Narcissi Do Best
Plant them where you will walk past them, which is really the only way to get the value out of the scent. The shorter varieties are excellent in pots beside a door, and the taller ones sit well towards the front of a border.
