Paeony flowered tulips like the name suggests are famed for their large petals and resemblance to paeony. They want to be planted in full sun or partial shade. These are not suitable for indoor culture. They are ideal for pots, containers, and bedding. They are an incredibly imposing variety of tulips, no matter the placement.
A relatively new idea is to use different shaped tulips within the same pots. Try some of the paeony tulips with their taller flowering cousins. We use Black Hero and Queen of Night, underplanted with forget-me-nots for contrast.
Scent
Many of the paeony flowered tulips are scented, along with the species, early doubles, parrot, lily flowering and mid-season groups. You may notice that the scent is stronger as they start to go over. For the pollinators, scent is vital.
