Early Single Tulips
The early single tulips are one of the first to flower, offering vibrant colours and classical tulip shapes. Their shorter stems make them ideal for pots and for exposed locations in the garden, and they are perhaps the most outstanding of all tulips for containers and the early spring border. Among tulips, early flowering singles were the first acclaimed for their scent.

The Prince tulips at Pashley
Among the most outstanding tulips for pots are the early singles and doubles. One of the best displays we have seen are the Prince tulips planted at Pashley Manor; planted in large terracotta pots they are truly show stopping. They are equally effective planted in single colours or as a mixture.

Planning the pots
Firstly, consider the pots and containers you already have and decide on bulbs that will compliment their size, shape and colouring. Choosing your bulbs is when you can get creative. Contrasting colours or subtle shade combinations? Single colours can make a dramatic impact, especially the hotter colours, immediately drawing the eye to wherever they are situated.
