This group of tulips have double the petals, the same profile as the more classically shaped ‘single tulips’. They flower in early spring and offer a nice variety of colours, from pastels to bright reds, yellows and orange. They resemble peonies or roses, and are ideal for creating a splendid display in any position in your garden. However, they thrive in pots and containers as they benefit from a more sheltered location. They can also be forced indoors.
Among the most outstanding tulips for pots are the early singles and doubles. They are equally effective planted in single colours or as a mixture. Of all the spring flowering bulbs for containers, nothing has the impact of tulips.
Scent
The early doubles are among the scented tulips, along with the species, paeony flowered, parrot, lily flowering and mid-season groups. When planting outside, you need generous drifts to make an impact.
