    A very striking plant. Tufts of narrow foliage from which rise strong long spikes closely set with numerous tiny florets, opening from the bottom of the spike upwards over several weeks. They flower June to July, and good drainage is essential.

    Handling the crowns

    Eremurus grow from a brittle starfish shaped crown rather than a bulb, so handle them gently and plant them shallowly on a little sand, spreading the roots out flat. Give them an open sunny position where the crown will not sit wet in winter, and once settled leave them undisturbed.
