As the name suggests, these tulips flower right in the middle of the tulip season. They can give a classical look to your garden and vary between solid-coloured and multi-coloured flowers. They are a staple to have in your spring display. They are amongst the most traditional shaped tulips and are also one of the hardiest. They can weather a strong wind enabled by their sturdy and strong stems. Tulip aficionados always admired these qualities as signs of what to look for in tulips.
Our La Symphony collection is a perfect example. The varieties are all a sport of the tulip “Jimmy”; they grow to the same height, have the same flowering time and their colours make for a perfect subtle blend. Rather than using a general mixture of many varieties, we select two or three that complement each other in colour, are of the same height and flower simultaneously.
Hardy stems, and a little scent
The mid-season tulips are suitable for planting in windy or harsh terrain due to their hardy stems. They are also among the scented tulips; you may notice that the scent is stronger as the flowers start to go over. When planting outside, you need generous drifts to make an impact.
