About Ornithogalum

Where few other bulbs will grow

Ornithogalum are very useful for planting at random in shady positions and for naturalising in places where few other bulbs will grow. Each stem can have up to 25 flowers, making a truly dramatic statement. Umbellatum carries shiny white upward facing stars in May and is an excellent naturaliser; nutans is silvery grey and pale green, quietly distinguished rather than showy.

For the vase, and for a pot

Kyiv carries long pyramidal heads packed with glistening white florets marked with a green stripe, and cuts superbly. The dubium forms in orange, yellow and pink want the warmest, best drained spot you can give them, or a pot where their long lasting flowers can be enjoyed close to.

The bulbs supplied by Bloms cost the most, gave the most flowers (26), were of top quality and had the potential of doubling themselves next year. The trials indicated that you get what you pay for.
