Dog’s tooth violets
Nowhere can these plants be seen to better advantage than when naturalised in clumps on the rockery. They are easily grown planted in a damp position and if allowed to establish will flower more profusely each season. In our own garden the erythroniums are grown only in pots, there being nowhere else particularly suitable, and they seem content enough with the arrangement.

The varieties
Pagoda carries four to five large canary gold flowers on long strong stems with prominent cinnamon anthers. The dens-canis forms, Purple King, Rose Queen and Snowflake, flower in April at about 15cm over heavily marbled foliage. Plant 5cm deep in humus rich soil in light shade and leave undisturbed.
