May Flowering (single late) tulips, also known as the kings of tulips, stand tall, borne on a very strong and sturdy stem. A truly outstanding show in the garden, they are a spectacle to see and perfectly hardy. Despite their immense stature, they are tolerant to the worst of the weather. Some of the most famous tulips occupy this category, such as ‘Queen of Night, ’ ‘Kingsblood’ and ‘Angel’s Wish’. These are an absolute showstopper, suitable for any location in your garden, large pots or containers.

In the border
If you are only planting small groups, our advice would be to treat them as annuals. Formal plantings for the border or the patio should always be new bulbs; here the impact is important, you want a uniform height and the largest flowers possible. Tulips will be a focal point wherever planted; use them to draw the eye and lead you on the journey around your garden.
