Darwin Hybrid Tulips bulbs
Darwin Hybrid Tulips Bulbs for Sale
Borne on solid stems, they have large cup shaped classical tulip heads. The Darwin Hybrid tulip bulbs are classically recommended for naturalising. They are the same family as the red and yellow tulips that we often see growing year after year in apple orchards. They flower from early April, and like their parent, fosteriana tulips, the new bulbs benefit from a long growing season; they start making the offset bulbs before this year’s flower. The colour range used to be rather restricted but has considerably expanded over the last 15 years with colours to suit all locations.
About Darwin Hybrid Tulips

Why they come back
The Darwin Hybrids are the ones classically recommended for naturalising. They are the same family as the red and yellow tulips that we often see growing back year after year in apple orchards. To successfully leave tulips in year on year, choose from these; they start growing the new bulbs early, before they flower, and thus have a longer growing season.

Where to put them
Bulbs can be left in, particularly if you have lighter soil, but it is important that they are planted in a sunny dry position. They do need warmth to develop the flower embryo during the summer months. Formal plantings for the border or the patio should always be new bulbs; here the impact is important, you want a uniform height and the largest flowers possible.
