Anemone coronaria

Back to Anemone

Plant in a damp but not wet soil enriched with well-decayed manure, where they will produce large strong stemmed flowers. From the single De Caen types to the semi-double St. Brigid strain, they are as much at home in the border as in containers, and they make a first-class cut flower.

    About Anemone coronaria

A jewel of the more discerning gardens

Anemone coronaria, traditionally a jewel of the more discerning gardens, have now made their way into our catalogue. Perfect in both ornamental borders and containers, and equally at home in a compact space or as a striking centrepiece. Flowering May to June at about 25cm, and excellent for cutting.

    Soak them first

The corms are dry and hard when they reach you, so give them a good overnight soak before planting 5cm deep in sun; they take up water quickly and start away much better for it. Single de Caen gives the full range of colours in single flowers, St. Brigid is the double strain, and Hollandia is large scarlet red with a black centre, opening saucer wide.

The bulbs supplied by Bloms cost the most, gave the most flowers (26), were of top quality and had the potential of doubling themselves next year. The trials indicated that you get what you pay for.
