The most popular colchicum, bearing a close resemblance to the waterlily, its large flowers bright lilac mauve and fully double. Appearing on bare stems from September. Plant in July or August, 10cm deep in sun or light shade, and leave to build into a colony; the leaves follow in spring.
Like all colchicums it will flower on a dry windowsill without soil or water, though it deserves better.
