Happy Easter

Warmer weather approaching, with a local high of 21 °C on Wednesday.  This is a great time of year to be out in the garden. After all the rain we have had one thing to watch for when walking around your garden is soil capping, a surface crust on the soil. It is important to lightly rake any affected areas or to just loosen the soil with a garden fork. This will allow water to penetrate to plant roots and help aerate the soil. This applies equally to containers; check they are sufficiently moist. Spring bulbs drink a lot of water.

Yesterday I ordered my summer wines, today it is the turn of the summer bulbs. With the risks of any serious frosts having passed this is the ideal time to get started on the summer garden.

Summer flowering bulbs provide a guarantee of colour in your garden. They can be either formal or informal, in pots or in the border. Added to borders of shrubs or herbaceous plants, they add structure and interest. They are often underused as part of our summer bedding, but bring real panache to any border. Do investigate these bulbs as alternatives to some of the more traditional bedding plants.

Lilies have all been planted. Listed below are some of my contenders
