Description
The Sprekelia formosissima, commonly known as the Aztec Lily, is an exotic and elegant member of the Amaryllidaceae family, thriving in 14cm pots, growing to a height of 30cm, and requiring 12cm spacing. Blooming from July to August, this striking plant features vivid red, orchid-like flowers that make a bold statement in gardens or containers.
While it can be over-wintered outdoors in mild districts, it requires a warm, sheltered place for optimal growth. Set the bulbs just below ground level and apply a protective layer during winter. For potted plants, cover the bulb up to two-thirds and place it in a cool greenhouse during the colder months. Perfect for borders, containers, or as a unique feature in the garden, Sprekelia formosissima adds a touch of dramatic beauty and charm to summer displays.
