Spring flowering
Hippeastrelia
Hippeastrelia is a stunning hybrid that combines the beauty and fragrance of a red hippeastrum with the hardiness and reliability of a predella. They produce large, showy red flowers with contrasting black or dark red markings on tall stems in late spring or early summer. They have a sweet scent that attracts butterflies and bees. Hippeastrelia bulbs should be planted deep and in a well-drained neutral soil with full sun. If grown in containers, they must be significant as they need plenty of root run. They need protection from frost in colder areas and can be lifted and stored in a dry place over winter. Hippeastrelia bulbs are ideal for adding colour and charm to borders, rockeries, or containers.
