When you choose Bloms Bulbs you are choosing carefully selected premium tubers that produce strong, healthy plants with long-lasting blooms creating a show stopping display season after season.

These can be planted out as soon as the risk of frost has passed. Late frosts are always a possibility, so it is wise to have some frost protection, such as old boxes or upturned pots, to hand just in case. Originating from volcanic hillsides, dahlias tubers perform best in full or partial sun and thrive in moisture-retentive yet freely drained soil. When planting dahlias bulbs avoid a shady position, and aim to provide some shelter from cold winds to encourage sturdy growth and prolific flowering.
Successful displays begin with strong, healthy bulbs. When you buy dahlia tubers from Bloms Bulbs, you are selecting premium grade stock chosen for vigour, reliability, and exceptional flowering performance. High-quality dahlias tubers establish more quickly, produce stronger plants, and reward you with fuller, longer-lasting blooms throughout the season.

When planting you should lightly fork the soil and rake in a top dressing of bone meal. Plant them a minimum of 10–15cm deep; where possible, 20cm is ideal to offer additional protection from late frosts. Dahlias are heavy feeders and benefit from rich, fertile soil, so incorporate plenty of well-rotted garden compost a week or so before planting.
Allow adequate space for healthy growth: plant giant varieties around 90cm apart, medium varieties approximately 60cm apart, and dwarf types around 30cm apart. This spacing encourages good air circulation and stronger stems, resulting in more impressive flowering displays.
