Chocolate. Not a hint of it, not a suggestion, actual chocolate, strongest when the afternoon warms up. The flowers are deep maroon and sit nearly black on their wiry stems until sunlight comes through them. July to the frosts. Being Mexican it will not stand our winters, so the tubers go in after the last frost, warm and sharply drained, and come out again in autumn the way a dahlia does. Or leave them under a deep dry mulch and hope. Front of the border. People bend to look and stay for the smell.
