Sparaxis

Sparaxis Mixture is a lovely collection of Sparaxis bulbs in a range of colours, from white and yellow to pink and red. Sparaxis are perennials that produce star-shaped flowers in late spring and early summer with yellow centres surrounded by black or dark red marks on slender stems. They are native to South Africa and have been grown for centuries for their beauty and fragrance. Sparaxis Mixture bulbs should be planted claws down in a sunny and sheltered position, with some protection from strong winds. They like a moist but well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. They need protection from frost in colder areas and can be covered with bracken during severe winter weather. Sparaxis Mixture bulbs are ideal for adding colour and charm to rockeries, borders, or containers. Sparaxis Mixture bulbs can be propagated by seed or division after flowering.

The bulbs supplied by Bloms cost the most, gave the most flowers (26), were of top quality and had the potential of doubling themselves next year. The trials indicated that you get what you pay for.
