Spring flowering
Scadoxus
Scadoxus, or blood lily, is a striking perennial that produces large, spherical heads of bright red flowers on sturdy stems. This exotic plant comes from South Africa and Arabia and has been admired for its stunning beauty and contrast with the dark green foliage. Scadoxus likes a loam-based compost such as John Innes No 2 with some added grit for drainage. Water generously when in growth and feed monthly from April until September. Keep the plant in a warm and sunny spot, but move it away from the window when the buds appear to prolong flowering. Protect the plant from frost in winter and store it somewhere dry and cool. Scadoxus can be propagated by seed or division in spring
