Amarine is a remarkable hybrid that combines an amaryllis’s beauty and fragrance with a nerine’s hardiness and reliability. Amarines have the vigour of the amaryllis and are seldom troubled by pests or diseases. They produce clusters of up to 10 trumpet-shaped flowers in white or shades of pink on strong, upright stems in autumn, followed by strap-shaped leaves. Amarines must be planted in a sunny position to encourage flowering, and they prefer moderately fertile, well-drained soil. They can tolerate temperatures as low as -10°C. Amarines are ideal for adding colour and fragrance to borders, rockeries, or containers Amarines can be propagated by seed or division after flowering.
